The woman, Komal Devi, also sustained serious injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment.

Circle Officer Kaushambi Arun Kumar Shukla said Komal Devi, wife of Pawan Kumar Jaiswal and a resident of Adhauli village under the Mahewa Ghat police station area, was sitting on the terrace with her one-and-a-half-year-old son Shaurya when a group of monkeys suddenly attacked them.

Panicked by the approaching monkeys, she tried to flee with the child in her arms but lost her balance and fell into the courtyard below, he said.

Both sustained serious injuries in the fall and were taken to a nearby hospital by family members.

The child succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Komal Devi continues to receive medical care, the officer said. PTI COR ABN APL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
