Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 16 (PTI) An ad hoc primary teacher died after a beam fell on him during the demolition of a dilapidated primary school building in Shahjahanpur district, an official said on Wednesday.
Basic Education Officer Jaishankar Srivastava said Shikshamitra Sukh Ram Kashyap, posted at a primary school in Kuberpur Gotia under Gadhiya Rangin police station, had on Tuesday afternoon gone to see the demolition work being carried out at a nearby old school building.
A beam of the building suddenly fell on Kashyap, seriously injuring him, the officer said.
He was immediately taken to Bareilly, where he died, Srivastava said, adding that the Block Education Officer had been sent to the spot to investigate the incident.
Expressing grief over the incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, in a post on X on Wednesday, urged the government to provide adequate compensation to the deceased shikshamitra’s family for their livelihood.
Yadav also said insurance cover for shikshamitras should be a priority of the government and described the period under the BJP government for shikshamitras, teachers and educational institutions as “extremely painful”. PTI COR ABN SHS SHS
