Mathura (UP), Oct 11 (PTI) The Railways are conducting a final location survey for the Mathura-Aligarh railway line via Medu junction on the Mathura-Kasganj section of North Eastern Railway, an official said on Sunday.

The proposal was made by Mathura MP Hema Malini in a letter to the General Manager, North Central Railway on September 14, before a meeting convened on Friday between General Manager North Central Railway Naresh Pal Singh and Members of Parliament representing Agra Division.

The meeting was convened to improve rail services in the Agra Division of North Central Railway.

Even after 79 years of India’s freedom, there is no rail line between the two neighbouring cities. Thousands of passengers cover a distance of around 60 km daily, facing all difficulties.

“The proposed rail link will ease travel between the cities and will reduce the commuting time between the two cities significantly,” Hema Malini had said.

The Railways have also assured her that they would consider her demand to extend the Agra-Varanasi Vande Bharat to Mathura after development of adequate maintenance facilities for Vande Bharat trains at the station, Janardhan Sharma, the MP representative of Hema Malini, said. PTI COR NAV SHS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
