Lucknow, Oct 26 (PTI) Re-polling was held at three polling stations in the Agra teachers’ constituency of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council peacefully on Monday, state Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said.

According to information received from Returning Officers, the three polling stations recorded a voter turnout of 57.16 per cent, he said in a statement.

The polling percentage at polling station number 20 (Tehsil Campus, Khairagarh) was 51.60 per cent; at polling station number 21 (Kshetra Panchayat Office, Saiyan) was 58.23 per cent; and at polling station number 26 (Kshetra Panchayat Office, Fatehabad) was 58.65 per cent, the statement said.

On Saturday, the Returning Officer recommended a re-poll at these polling stations following allegations of “booth capturing”.

Earlier, Rinwa said the Election Commission has decided to conduct a re-poll at the three polling stations.

Voting that took place at these polling stations on October 23 was declared void under Section 58A(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The instructions to conduct a re-poll come after the Samajwadi Party alleged irregularities and “booth capturing” during the Legislative Council elections in several districts, including Agra, on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday, the party submitted a complaint to the Uttar Pradesh CEO regarding “booth capturing” during the elections.

The counting of votes for the Legislative Council elections will take place on October 27. PTI NAV RUK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
