Chandauli (UP), Sep 17 (PTI) A 13-year-old schoolgirl was rescued from inside an RO water plant in the Shahabganj area of Chandauli district after she was allegedly kidnapped, police said on Thursday.
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged crime and sent to jail.
According to the police, the Class 9 student went missing on Wednesday after she had gone to a nearby grocery store upon returning from school.
When she did not return for a long time, her family members launched a search for her. While looking for her, they heard cries coming from inside an RO water plant located between the school and the store.
The family immediately alerted the police, after which a team arrived at the scene, broke open the lock of the plant, and rescued the girl.
“The minor girl was found with her hands and feet tied inside the plant,” the police said.
Following the rescue, the victim’s family submitted a written complaint accusing the plant’s operator, Zubair Alam, and another individual, Ikram, of holding the minor hostage.
Shahabganj Station House Officer (SHO) Arun Kumar Singh said preliminary questioning of the duo claimed it to be a matter of a dispute regarding a debt of Rs 15,000.
A case has been registered against both accused under sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntary causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Both have been arrested and sent to judicial custody, the SHO added.
