Aligarh (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) A three-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted by a childless couple from a railway platform here, was safely rescued by the police, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday night when the girl was sleeping with her father, Karan Prakash, on platform number 5 of Aligarh Junction while waiting for a train to New Delhi.

A couple sitting nearby befriended the child by offering her some eatables and kidnapped her, police said.

A case was registered on Sunday, and the Government Railway Police (GRP) launched an investigation. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma said that over 200 CCTV footages were scanned.

The girl was traced in a village in Sambhal district and was rescued on Monday. Police also arrested the accused couple in the case, identified as Mahesh Yadav and his wife, Rupmani. During interrogation, the couple told the police that they wanted to adopt the child as they were childless.

“We are investigating the entire matter to check out the couple’s version and find out whether there could be an organised gang behind this crime or whether the couple is telling the truth,” SP Verma said.

This was the second such incident reported from Aligarh Junction in a month.

On June 19, a two-year-old girl, the daughter of a labourer from Bihar, was abducted from the station. The child was later rescued from Etawah following a search operation. PTI COR ABN SMV HIG
