Lucknow, Oct 25 (PTI) Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa on Sunday reviewed the preparations for the counting of votes for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections.

The elections covered five graduates’ constituencies and six teachers’ constituencies.

The officials present at the virtual meeting were provided with training regarding the vote-counting process, an official statement said.

Counting of votes for the Legislative Council election will take place on October 27.

Rinwa instructed all officials concerned to thoroughly study the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India regarding the counting of votes and to ensure their strict compliance.

He further directed that all preparations for the counting be completed within the stipulated timeframe, and the entire process be conducted in a smooth, peaceful and timely manner.

Rinwa stated that all personnel assigned to the counting process must be provided with proper training to ensure that the counting proceeds smoothly. Before the counting begins, all necessary materials and forms should be assessed, and the arrangements for the counting tables as well as the returning officer’s table must be completed well in advance, he said.

The appointment of counting agents for all candidates should be carried out in accordance with the prescribed procedure, and they must be issued photo identity cards as per the rules, he added.

The CEO instructed all returning officers and assistant returning officers to continuously monitor the preparations for the counting and to ensure there is no laxity in any of the required arrangements.

He emphasised that the counting process must be conducted in a seamless, peaceful, and timely manner, while ensuring full compliance with the directives of the Election Commission of India, the statement said.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
