Lucknow, Jun 28 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary on Sunday met the family of socialist ideologue Dr Ram Manohar Lohia at their residence in Lucknow, seen as an attempt to breach the Samajwadi Party’s ideological turf ahead of the 2027 state polls.
According to a statement issued by the BJP, as part of a special public outreach campaign, Chaudhary, the Union minister of state for finance, met Lohia’s family, inquired about their well-being and held discussions on the Modi government’s development initiatives over the past 12 years.
The Samajwadi Party considers Lohia to be their “guiding light” and “chief ideologue”.
Lohia, a socialist political leader who actively participated in the Independence movement, was born on March 23, 1910, and passed away on October 12, 1967.
According to the statement, Chaudhary met Rameshchandra Lohia, Shobha Rani Lohia, Prithviraj Lohia, Harshvardhan Lohia, Rajyavardhan Lohia, Narayan Lohia, Udaypratap and Nilu Lohia at the family residence and inquired about their well-being.
During the meeting, Chaudhary said the 12-year tenure of the Modi government has witnessed the nation’s reconstruction and the dawn of a golden era, with India establishing itself as a self-reliant and robust nation on the global stage.
“Guided by the core mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’, Modi government’s policies have not remained confined to just paper schemes; instead, their direct benefits have reached the person standing at the very last rung of society,” the BJP leader said.
The government’s various public welfare policies have laid a strong foundation for significant and positive socio-economic transformation in the country, he claimed.
Later, in a post on X in Hindi, Chaudhary said, “Today in Lucknow, I had a warm meeting with the family members of prominent socialist thinker Dr Ram Manohar Lohia.” “During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the Modi government’s historic developmental initiatives, public welfare policies, and the positive transformations witnessed across the country over the past 12 years,” Chaudhary said.
