Gonda (UP), Sep 13 (PTI) Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, a police official said on Sunday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Radheshyam Rai on Sunday said that a speeding roadways bus rammed into a motorcycle from behind near Parsapur village on the Ayodhya-Gonda highway in Nawabganj police station area.
Anil Singh (35), a resident of Tediya Purwa in Imiliya village (under Wazirganj police station area in Gonda), sustained critical injuries in the accident on Saturday night. The ‘Dial 112’ police team rushed him to a local Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Rai said that the driver fled from the spot, abandoning the bus. The bus has been impounded, and further legal action will be taken based on the complaint filed by the family.
In a separate incident in Kotwali Nagar police station area, a pick-up truck lost control and plunged into an open drain near the memorial site of Rajendra Nath Lahiri on Saturday night.
The driver, Shivkumar (35), drowned in the accident. Locals pulled him out and rushed him to the medical college in a private vehicle, where doctors declared him dead.
Shivkumar was a resident of Gonda district and supported his family by driving the vehicle. He is survived by five daughters and two sons.
The police retrieved the pick-up truck from the drain using a crane. Footage from CCTV cameras installed near the accident sites is being examined.
