New Delhi: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal Friday reviewed the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) project in Lothal, Gujarat. The project, which is at 57 percent completion of phase 1, is aimed at showcasing India’s maritime heritage from ancient to modern times through an edutainment approach and latest technology, a PIB press release stated.

The project progress review meeting held at the Mumbai Port Office was attended by the Union Minister along with representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Defense (MoD) including the Navy & Coast Guard, the Governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra, Prasar Bharati, and Architect Hafeez Contractor.
Sonowal expressed his support for the integrated project development approach adopted for the NMHC, recognizing its significance in preserving and honoring India’s maritime history. The project’s alignment with regional sentiments underscores the importance of harmonizing development efforts with the area’s cultural and historical significance.

“The National Maritime Heritage Complex is a tribute to our maritime legacy and a reflection of our commitment to preserving our historical roots,” he said. The project is expected to become a major tourist destination, drawing visitors from around the world, and fostering a greater understanding of India’s maritime heritage.
