Undertrial prisoner jumps to death from 7th floor of hospital in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Apr 24 (PTI) An undertrial prisoner undergoing treatment at the government-run MGM Hospital here died after allegedly jumping off the seventh floor of the facility on Friday, police said.

The deceased, identified as Ashok Kumar, was lodged in jail in connection with the murder of his wife and son, they said.

Police said the inmate was reportedly suffering from depression and had attempted suicide in jail by slitting his throat on Sunday, but was stopped by prison personnel.

He was subsequently admitted to the prisoners’ ward of the hospital under security, deputy superintendent of police (Patamda) Bachandev Kujjur said.

On Friday afternoon, police were taking him to a doctor on the hospital premises when Ashok jumped off the seventh floor of the hospital, MGM police station OC Sachin Kumar Das said.
