New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) A 23-year-old accused, arrested in connection with a criminal case in the Sonia Vihar area here, escaped from the investigating officer’s custody on Saturday morning, prompting police to register a fresh case and launch a manhunt, officials said.
Police said following the incident in northeast Delhi, they made a daily diary entry and registered a separate case under the relevant section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with escape from custody.
Multiple teams have been formed and deployed to trace and arrest the absconding accused, they said.
Police said the accused, Lalu, was arrested earlier in a case lodged at the Sonia Vihar police station in northeast Delhi.
During the investigation, police recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the commission of the offence. Officials later found that the vehicle had been stolen from the jurisdiction of the Model Town police station. Police apprehended a 16-year-old co-conflict with law (CCL) linked to the case separately and sent him to an observation home, they said.
Police said investigations into both the original case and the escape are underway. PTI SSJ ASD ASD
