Lucknow, Jul 4 (PTI) Under the BJP, both India and Uttar Pradesh emerged from the “dark era of appeasement, corruption and misgovernance” that prevailed during the previous governments, party president Nitin Nabin said on Saturday.

Addressing a meeting attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the first day of his two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh, Nabin urged party leaders and workers to gear up for next year’s state elections.

Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, attended the meeting along with party MPs and MLAs. According to a party statement, Nabin asked the BJP workers not to fall for what he termed the opposition’s “misleading narratives” and work unitedly to ensure the BJP’s victory in the upcoming Assembly polls.

He claimed that Uttar Pradesh before 2017 and Bihar before 2005 were known for lawlessness, rampant corruption and caste-based politics, alleging that the previous Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governments failed to deliver development in the state.

Since the BJP led by Narendra Modi came to power at the Centre in 2014, and in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, both India and the state emerged from the “dark era of appeasement, corruption and misgovernance” that became the norm during the previous regimes, Nabin claimed.

The Yogi Adityanath government dismantled the influence of mafias and strongmen and established rule of law in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP leader said.

Referring to the BJP’s 2011 Ekta Yatra, Nabin said party leaders had then faced attempts by the authorities to stop them from hoisting the national flag at the Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

But the situation changed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the abrogation of Article 370 strengthening national unity, Nabin said.

He also accused the opposition of attempting to divide society along caste lines ahead of the Assembly elections and alleged that it was trying to weaken the BJP’s nation first ideology through social media campaigns and perception-building.

The welfare schemes of the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government have benefited crores of people and generated employment for lakhs of youth, he claimed.

However, he said, the party needed to improve its outreach to convert this support into votes.

The BJP president asked the MPs and MLAs to spend more time among the people, take ownership of development works and actively participate in organisational meetings.

Expressing confidence about the party’s poll prospects, Nabin said the BJP would retain power in Uttar Pradesh with a “historic” mandate in 2027 after seven-eight months of sustained organisational efforts. PTI CDN ARI
