Bhopal, Aug 15 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said the state government will implement the Uniform Civil Code in line with the spirit of the Constitution, noting that the common legal framework will end discriminatory practices and promote social harmony.
Addressing the Independence Day function at Lal Parade Ground after hoisting the National Flag, Yadav also praised security forces for eliminating the Naxal menace.
“From Lord Shri Ram to Lord Shri Krishna, the message of equality has been given. In accordance with this basic spirit of the Indian Constitution, we are taking a historic step. We are implementing the Uniform Civil Code in Madhya Pradesh.
“We are implementing the idea of one nation, one Constitution, one head and one flag on the ground by bringing in the same law for everyone. The UCC will end discriminatory practices and promote social harmony,” Yadav said.
On July 21, the legislative assembly passed the ‘Madhya Pradesh Uniform Civil Code 2026 Bill’ by voice vote amid noisy protests by the opposition Congress.
Among other provisions, the common legal framework bans polygamy and makes the registration of live-in relationships mandatory while excluding the tribal community from its scope.
Yadav paid tribute to police and other security personnel who died while displaying immense courage on the internal security front.
“I pay tribute on behalf of the people of Madhya Pradesh to the police and other brave personnel who attained martyrdom. Because of such brave personnel, the state has achieved the distinction of becoming Naxal-free,” he said.
The chief minister said the state government is working to make Madhya Pradesh the country’s milk capital, noting that milk collection has reached 12 lakh litres per day, while dairy producers are earning a profit of more than Rs 8 per litre.
He said the government is promoting the Lakhpati Gopalak Didi Yojana to empower women, adding that women could become financially prosperous through animal husbandry along with breed improvement.
Yadav said the state implemented the Fisheries Policy 2026, under which Madhya Pradesh had signed an investment and buy-back agreement worth some crore with a leading international company.
He emphasised the government’s commitment towards providing irrigation water to every field, saying the state aims to increase its gross irrigation capacity to a manifold 100 lakh hectares by 2028-29.
The state government is also creating a complete value chain from farms to factories, Yadav said.
He referred to initiatives to promote handloom and other traditional products in global markets and the launch of a Handloom Centre of Excellence in the state.
“Madhya Pradesh had observed 2025 as the Year of Investment and Employment and is observing 2026 as the Year of Farmer Welfare. The government has decided to observe 2027 as the Year of Youth,” he said.
According to Yadav, the government has prepared a comprehensive strategy for the overall development and welfare of young people, with quality education, skill development, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities in the public and private sectors, startup support, and sports and arts among its key pillars.
He said more than 3.34 lakh business units had been registered on the Udyam portal in the past two-and-a-half years, providing direct and indirect employment opportunities to more than 33.80 lakh youths.
The chief minister added that the government had implemented the Madhya Pradesh MSME Development Policy 2025, Startup Policy and other such policies to strengthen the startup ecosystem.
“There are currently around 8,000 startups operating in the state, and women are leading about 50 per cent of them. The government aims to increase the number of startups to more than 12,000 and establish at least one incubation centre in every district,” he said.
On healthcare, he said the government had appointed 1,000 new doctors in the past three months and planned to appoint another 1,000 in the next six months.
Yadav said online medical consultation services will be made available across Madhya Pradesh from November 1, 2026, helping address the shortage of specialist doctors and reducing the need for patients to travel elsewhere for consultation.
“The government is also opening new medical colleges and has decided to establish another medical university, which will take the number of medical universities in MP to two. The process of establishing eight new Ayurvedic medical colleges has also been started,” he added. PTI LAL NSK
