Meerut (UP), Sep 14 (PTI) Police have arrested two wanted suspects in connection with the killing of Nitin Nagar in the Hastinapur area here following an encounter, officials said on Monday.
According to police, the arrested individuals are Satya Tomar, alias Miththu (19) and Utsav Yadav (18), both residents of Hastinapur.
Police said Nitin (24), a resident of Manganagar village under Bahsuma police station, was shot dead on Friday afternoon near Hastinapur police station. They said six assailants riding two motorcycles attacked him, and one bullet hit his leg. He suffered heavy blood loss and died, police said. According to his family, Nitin was preparing for recruitment in the Delhi Police and he had cleared the written examination. He was scheduled to appear for the physical efficiency test on October 3. The family said he got married around four months ago.
Police said on Sunday, while conducting checks on the canal bank near the Jambudweep canal bridge, they received a tip-off that the accused wanted in the Nitin murder case were likely to pass through the area.
When the police team attempted to intercept them, the accused allegedly fired at the team with the intention to kill. Police said they arrested both the accused after retaliatory fire.
They said no police personnel were injured during the incident.
Police said an illegal country-made pistol allegedly used in the crime, along with one live cartridge and one spent shell, was recovered from Satya.
