Bidar (Karnataka), Aug 14 (PTI) The two men wanted in connection with an ATM robbery cum murder here last year, were arrested in Bihar after their movements were monitored for nearly 20 days, police said on Friday.

The duo has been identified as Alok alias Ambani, a resident of the Mahisaur police station area, and Aman Kumar, a resident of the Sarai police station area of Vaishali, they said.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar Khandre, who is also the district-in-charge Minister of Bidar on Friday congratulated the district police team for successfully arresting the notorious robbers allegedly involved in the ATM shootout case that had caused widespread fear in the city.

The arrest was made near Damodarpur village in Vaishali district of Bihar, police said.

The incident took place on January 16, 2025, near the SBI main branch in Bidar district, when CMS employees were transporting around Rs 83 lakh from the bank for depositing in ATMs, they said. CMS is a cash management and ATM logistics business services company.

The accused allegedly opened fire while attempting to loot the cash-filled vehicle, killing one CMS employee and injuring another.

Speaking to reporters here, Pradeep Gunti, Superintendent of Police (Bidar) said, “We conducted an operation in Bihar, and we had information that they were moving around there. So, we planned the operation and arrested them on Thursday.

“We detained the two main accused who came on a motorcycle. We had been monitoring their movements for around 20 days. Based on that, we anticipated that they might come to a particular place, so we laid a trap and waited there. We caught both of them,” he said.

The arrested accused have been wanted in different states, including Telangana, Bihar as well as in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

Interrogation has revealed that the accused had visited Bidar once, about four months before committing the crime, the SP said.

“Basically, they had made some plans in Hyderabad during their stay there. They studied the fact that Bidar is located near the border and then came here, according to what they have told us,” he said.

The officer said that since it has been about one-and-a-half years since the robbery, a detailed interrogation will be done will to find out where they kept the money and how they used it so that the robbed amount can be recovered.

In a statement, Khandre said the Bidar police officers and personnel who took up the serious case as a challenge and succeeded in putting the accused behind bars deserved appreciation.

He said the arrests send a strong warning to those involved in criminal activities and those who take the law into their own hands.

Reiterating that maintaining peace and law and order and ensuring the safety of the public are among the government’s top priorities, the minister said the police department should continue to work vigilantly to build a crime-free Bidar. PTI AMP ROH
