Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Sep 3 (PTI) A show cause notice has been issued to block development officers of four villages, while two village functionaries have been suspended for their laxity in supervision and monitoring of cow shelters here, officials said on Thursday.

The action came after Chief Development Officer (CDO) Abhishek Kumar carried out a surprise inspection of cow shelters at Hyderabad and Mamari villages here on Wednesday and found the places heavily waterlogged.

Expressing grave resentment over the state of cow shelters, Kumar suspended the two village functionaries, Surabhi Gaur and Akhilesh Kumar, who were in-charge of cow shelters in these villages, an official statement issued here said.

He ordered departmental proceedings against three other village functionaries for dereliction of their duties in management of cow shelters.

Kumar also issued show cause notice to block development officers (BDO) of Gola, Pasgawan, Mitauli and Ramiabehar villages.

The CDO also expressed displeasure over the inadequate arrangements of fodder for the cows kept at the shelter.

Taking serious note of this, the CDO formed various teams of officials to inspect all other remaining cow shelters across the district and submit the status report within the next two days. PTI COR ABN DV DV

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
