Hyderabad, Jun 11 (PTI) Two sisters died here due to suspected food poisoning, prompting the city police to register cases of suspicious death.

The two girls—aged 17 and 13, along with two other family members were hospitalised on June 6 after consuming food, including mangoes, and died on June 7 and 9.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar on Thursday said officials have been asked to preserve their viscera and also take expert opinion. “Definitely, we will go in-depth and will find out,” he said.

According to another police official, on June 5 one of the relatives came from Karnataka and brought two kgs of mangoes.

“One kg mango was given to the family and the other was given to a family in the neighbourhood and all of them ate them. On June 6 evening, four members of the family fell ill and complained of loose motion and vomiting, and were admitted to different hospitals. The relative and members of another family who also ate the mangoes did not suffer any health issues,” the official said.

The 17-year-old girl died on June 7 and her sister died on June 9 while undergoing treatment.

Based on complaints filed by the family members of the deceased girls, two cases were registered under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS at Narayanaguda Police Station and post-mortem was conducted, police said.

“It is not that they fell ill after eating mangoes… it could be after having some other food item or due to other reason. But we don’t know. We have preserved the viscera. Based on the post-mortem and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report we can be able to tell the cause of the death,” the official said.

Further investigation is on. PTI VVK VVK ROH
