Jalna, Oct 5 (PTI) A man was murdered after he assaulted his wife in an inebriated condition in Maharashtra’s Jalna district, following which the deceased’s two sons were booked, a police official said on Monday.

Sunil Devkar (25) and Anil Devkar (27) allegedly dumped the body of their father Raju Devkar, a resident of Wakad in Washim district, in a well in Waghul Dongargaon here, the official said.

“On October 1, Raju (48) beat up his wife in a drunken state. Enraged by his behaviour, Sunil assaulted Raju with a stick. Anil and Sunil then took Raju to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. During the journey, Raju continued abusing Sunil, leading to the latter strangling his father,” the Badnapur police station official said.

When they reached Sindkhed Raja, Anil realised that his father had died, the official said.

“Sunil threatened to commit suicide if he was arrested, following which Anil panicked and helped him dispose of Raju’s body in a well in a farm in Waghul Dongargaon area. The two brothers then told villagers that their father had jumped out of the car and fled. However, Anil later reported the chain of events to another sibling Sitaram,” the official said.

Based on information provided by Sitaram, the body was recovered and Sunil and Anil were booked for murder, destruction of evidence and other offences, he said.

The case has been transferred to Risod police for further investigation, police said. PTI COR BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
