Latehar (Jharkhand), Jul 23 (PTI) Two Maoists were arrested with arms, ammunition and a stolen motorcycle in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, police said on Thursday.
The two ultras, belonging to the banned People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), had arrived in the area to extort contractors and create terror in Balumath police station area, OC Amrendra Kumar said.
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav received information that two suspects were travelling from Chandwa towards Bariyatu within Balumath police station limits with an intention to commit a crime, he said.
Following the information, a police team was formed on the direction of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Umesh Prasad Singh to take necessary action.
The team then launched a vehicle checking drive at Makayatand, when two suspects made an abortive attempt to flee on seeing policemen but were caught, the officer said.
Police have recovered a country-made pistol, one magazine, three live cartridges, two mobile phones and a stolen motorcycle, Kumar said.
The arrested members have been identified as Sanjay Singh alias Dimpu alias Bhim Singh, a resident of Lohardaga’s Madanpur village within Peshrar police station limits, and Shahzad Ansari of Sinjo village within Kudu police station area. PTI COR BS MNB
