Beed, Jul 15 (PTI) Police in Maharashtra’s Beed district have busted a gang involved in stealing motorcycles with the arrest of two members, and recovered from them 29 vehicles collectively valued at Rs 14.90 lakh, officials said on Wednesday.

The arrest of the two accused brought to light at least 15 cases of motorcycle theft across various districts.

On July 14, while a squad of the local crime branch was patrolling Sirasdevi village in the Georai sub-division, they spotted a suspicious, numberless motorcycle. The team intercepted the rider, identified as Ganesh Sudam Bahir, a resident of Pandharwadi.

During his interrogation, Bahir confessed that the motorcycle was stolen. He told the investigators that his accomplice, Vaibhav Babasaheb Khedkar — a resident of Mahijalgaon in the Jamkhed tehsil of Ahilyanagar district — was the mastermind behind the thefts, the police said.

Khedkar had handed over 14 stolen motorcycles to Bahir to sell, promising him a commission of Rs 5,000 for every successful sale. The police immediately took Bahir into custody and seized 14 two-wheelers of various makes from his possession.

Following the leads obtained from Bahir, a police team launched a manhunt and raided Mahijalgaon to track down Khedkar, and ultimately nabbed him.

During his questioning, Khedkar admitted to stealing 29 motorcycles from various regions, including Beed, Pune city, Pune rural, Sangli, Ahilyanagar and Solapur districts. PTI COR NP
