Mathura (UP), Jun 8 (PTI) Two persons were killed and thirteen others injured when a contractual Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus travelling from Govardhan to Agra overturned near a toll plaza in the Farah police station area here on Monday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Chanchal (19), a resident of Mathura, and Sunita (22), a resident of Agra, Farah SHO Chote Lal said.

Of the injured, nine passengers sustained minor injuries and were discharged after receiving first aid, he said.

Four passengers are undergoing treatment, one of whom is in a serious condition, the SHO added.

According to police, the incident occurred when the bus attempted to overtake another vehicle, crossed the divider and overturned.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Farah and Mathura for treatment.

Police said that by the time officers reached the spot, most passengers had already left the scene and only the injured remained there.

As a result, the exact number of passengers travelling on the bus could not be immediately ascertained, officials said.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.

The bus driver fled the scene after the accident and efforts are underway to trace him, SP City Rajiv Kumar Singh said. PTI COR NAV MDO MDO
