Palghar, May 15 (PTI) Two persons were killed and one sustained injuries after a van transporting silver worth crores crashed into the divider and collided with a trailer on a highway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Friday, police said.
The accident occurred around 6.20 am at Charoti Bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway in the jurisdiction of the Kasa police station, an official said.
The driver lost control, causing the van to ram into the divider on the Gujarat-bound lane, cross over to the opposite side, and collide with a trailer, Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh said.
“The van, belonging to Mumbai-based Nakoda Bullion and operated by Modison Ltd, was carrying 20 plates of silver weighing 600 kg from Mumbai to Vapi in Gujarat’s Valsad district,” he said.
Two occupants of the van died on the spot due to the impact of the collision, and another person sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital, Deshmukh said.
The valuables were recovered from the vehicle, he said, adding that a probe has been initiated into the incident. PTI COR ARU
