Latur, Jun 20 (PTI) Two men have been arrested nearly 11 years after they were named in a case involving the alleged theft of sandalwood in Maharashtra’s Latur district, police said on Saturday.

The action was carried out as part of a special campaign launched by the district police to track down absconding accused persons, said inspector Vishal Sahane.

According to police, unidentified persons had stolen the core wood of a sandalwood tree from the premises of the Primary Health Centre at Belkund in Ausa tehisil in August 2015. The stolen sandalwood was valued at around Rs 5,000.

While the police registered a case and subsequently arrested three accused, Nitin Gorakh Raut (48) and Ramchandra, alias Ram Dharmaraj Mali (50), had remained absconding since then.

The two were recently taken into custody from their respective homes, said officials. Both were produced before a court, they said, adding that a supplementary chargesheet has also been filed in the case. PTI COR NR
