Jalna, May 6 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman has accused a man of sexually abusing her when she was a minor in Maharashtra’s Jalna district, prompting the police to arrest him and his father and book his two brothers, an official said on Wednesday.
A first information report has been registered against the four under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections concerning rape, criminal intimidation and common intention, he said.
The woman, who has studied engineering, has also alleged that the accused pressured her to follow certain religious rituals and tried to convert her. Police said they are verifying the allegations.
The woman, a resident of Bhokardan tehsil, alleged that key accused Shaikh Imran, now 37, sexually abused her at multiple locations, including Jalna city and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (earlier Aurangabad), over many years beginning in 2016.
Shaikh Imran allegedly used some photographs of the woman to blackmail her, police said.
Jalna Superintendent of Police Tegbir Singh Sandhu said a case has been registered against Imran, his two brothers and their father.
“Imran and his father Shaikh Habib were arrested today. All aspects of the case, including allegations of coercion for religious conversion, are being investigated,” he said. PTI COR NR
