Latur, Jun (27) Two gram panchayat officials have been suspended for allegedly embezzling over Rs 22 lakh of public money in Maharashtra’s Latur district, officials said on Saturday.

The financial irregularity was reported from Borgaon (Khurd) village in Jalkot tehsil, said Block Development Officer Aishwarya Chitari.

The accused have been identified as the present gram panchayat officer Satyabhama Bane and Firoz Shaikh, who held the post earlier.

The alleged fraud of more than Rs 22 lakh pertains to the procurement of materials under the 15th Finance Commission grants, said officials.

Chitari ordered the suspension of Shaikh and Bane following a complaint by deputy sarpanch Shivaji Kendre.

A case has been registered against the accused and a probe is underway, they added. PTI COR NR
