Sonbhadra (UP), Jun 2 (PTI) Two girls were killed after being struck by lightning while collecting mangoes in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district on Tuesday evening, police said.

The incident occurred at Naugawan village under the Ghorawal police station area.

Ghorawal SHO Brijesh Singh said that Anshika (13), daughter of Ramashankar, and her cousin Aanchal, daughter of Vinod Kumar, had gone a short distance from their house to collect fallen mangoes when lightning struck them, leaving both critically injured.

Their family members rushed them to the community health centre in Ghorawal, where doctors declared them dead, the officer said.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings are underway, Singh added. PTI COR KIS ARI
