Two girls drown while bathing in pond in UP’s Banda

Banda (UP), Jul 13 (PTI) Two girls aged under ten drowned in a pond while bathing in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district on Monday, police said.

The incident occurred in Hastam village under Bisanda police station limits.

Atarra Circle Officer (CO) Pratigya Singh said Radhika, 7, daughter of Shravan Verma, a resident of Hastam village, and Anshika, 9, daughter of Shiv Shankar Verma of Naraini area, who was visiting her relatives, drowned while bathing in the pond.

She said villagers and family members pulled the girls out of the water in an unconscious condition and rushed them to a hospital, where both died during treatment.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and an investigation into the incident has been initiated, the officer said.

Singh added that the revenue authorities have been informed so that the bereaved families can be provided the government financial assistance admissible under the rules. PTI COR ABN SHS
