Beed, May 16 (PTI) Two persons were killed after a car hit their motorcycle in Beed district of Maharashtra, police said on Saturday.

The accident occurred at Limbaganesh in Beed tehsil, about 25 km away from here on Friday around 11.45 pm, they said.

The car collided head-on with the motorcycle, in which the riders – Baban Kashinath Lagas and Dnyanadev Vishnu Lagas – died on the spot, the police said.

After the accident, local residents rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. A police team shifted the bodies to the District Hospital in Beed, an official of Neknoor police station said.

Villagers demanded installation of signboards indicating the presence of a school and village ahead and immediate construction of speed breakers to prevent such accidents at the spot.

Sarpanch of Limbaganesh village, Balasaheb Jadhav, alleged that although the Road Safety Committee has declared the stretch accident-prone zone, necessary measures have not been implemented so far by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) division and contractors. PTI COR NP
