Panaji, Jul 28 (PTI) As many as 24 fishermen were rescued on Tuesday after two fishing canoes capsized in separate incidents off Colva and Benaulim beaches amid rough sea conditions in Goa, police said.
Nobody was injured in these incidents.
Lifesavers and jet ski operators at Colva beach reached the fishermen using rescue equipment and brought all 15 fishermen safely to shore. Around the same time, another fishing canoe carrying nine fishermen capsized off nearby Benaulim beach. They too were rescued immediately.
Sea conditions along Goa’s coastline remain hazardous during the ongoing monsoon season due to rough waters and strong winds.
A Goa government-appointed agency entrusted with lifesaving at beaches said it has deployed more than 480 trained lifesavers and marshals across the major beaches, waterfalls, and at four inland water bodies to respond to emergencies during the season. PTI RPS NSK
