Wardha, May 1 (PTI) A case has been registered against two persons for allegedly beheading a goat as part of an animal sacrifice ritual in Maharashtra’s Wardha district, PETA India said on Friday.
The animal rights body claimed that the goat was beheaded in full public view, and the ritual was captured on video on April 9.
Based on a complaint lodged by PETA India and a local activist, the Talegaon police registered a first information report on April 25 against Babansingh Santoshsingh Bawri and Jonusingh Gotansingh Bawri, under section 325 (mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering any animal useless) of the BNS and relevant provisions of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, the organisation stated in a release.
“Animal sacrifice is both cruelty to animals and a danger to society. It desensitises us to violence and reinforces obsolete beliefs that hinder progress,” said Saloni Sakaria, PETA India Associate Manager of Cruelty Response. PTI CLS ARU
