Ranchi, Aug 29 (PTI) Police have arrested two persons for allegedly killing a 32-year-old man and injuring a truck driver in separate incidents while trying to loot mobile phones in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, officials said on Saturday.
The body of the victim, identified as Upendra Kumar Mishra, was recovered on August 26 near Aughad Baba Ashram within Kotwali police station area, they said.
Mishra was a resident of Kumhar Toli within Sukhdeonagar police station limits in Ranchi.
“We arrested two persons in connection with the murder and the attack on the truck driver. During interrogation, they confessed to killing Mishra and attacking the truck driver. Police recovered four mobile phones they had looted,” Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said.
The accused also told police that they attacked the truck driver near Sahjanand Chowk within Argora police station area and subsequently stole a mobile phone from a house in the same police station area that night. Police recovered the knife used in committing the crime, he said.
The accused have been identified as Sujeet Kumar Gupta and Rakesh Kumar Yadav. Both are residents of Sukhdeonagar in Ranchi, another official said.
Gupta had previously been jailed in connection with theft, robbery and narcotics trade, with seven cases pending against him, while Yadav had been jailed in a theft case, Kotwali police station in-charge Sanoj Choudhary said. PTI RPS RPS MNB
