Chatra, Aug 3 (PTI) A truck carrying illegal liquor to the dry state of Bihar overturned in Jharkhand’s Chatra district while allegedly trying to run over police personnel trying to stop the vehicle, officials said on Monday.
As liquor spilled on the road and the truck driver managed to flee, leaving behind the vehicle, police were able to recover 3,700 bottles of different brands.
A senior officer said that acting on a tip-off, the police initiated vehicle checking near Sheregarha on Sunday and intercepted the truck.
“The truck driver, however, disregarded the police’s signal to stop and attempted to run over the team. He, however, lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. Liquor spilled onto the road, causing a commotion. Taking advantage of the accident, the driver fled,” Chatra SDPO Sunny Vardhan said.
“A total of 3,700 bottles of different brands of foreign liquor were recovered from the truck. The estimated market value of the seized liquor is around Rs 16 lakh,” he said.
The officer said the truck has been seized and an FIR has been registered at the Sadar police station. PTI COR RPS RPS NSD
