Thane, Aug 1 (PTI) The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Maharashtra’s Thane has awarded a compensation of Rs 22.75 lakh to the family of 28-year-old man, who died in a road accident in 2017.
In the order passed recently, the tribunal ordered vehicle owner Bharatbhai Mohanlal Trivedi and a private insurance company to pay the compensation.
The incident had occurred on November 17, 2017 near Kapurbawdi Circle in Thane, in which a tanker hit the victim’s motorcycle. Trivedi, an assistant technician, sustained severe injuries and died during treatment.
The tribunal said the tanker, which was running at a very high speed in a rash and negligent manner, hit Trivedi’s motorcycle.
“There is nothing on record to show any contributory negligence on the part of the deceased,” it said, and rejected the insurer’s contention regarding a breach of policy conditions and lack of specific hazardous goods permits.
The tribunal directed the insurer and vehicle owner to give Rs 22,75,100 with nine per cent annual interest within one month to the family of the deceased. PTI COR NP
