Chennai, Jul 29 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday reviewed the progress of Phase I and Phase II of the CMRL.
He reviewed key construction activities, operational preparedness for train services and the status of future Metro expansion projects.
He visited train operating areas and major construction sites to inspect the expansion works of Chennai Metro Rail, accompanied by N Marie Wilson, Minister for Finance, Planning and Development; Alandur MLA M Harish; Maduravoyal MLA P Rhevanth Charan; Chief Secretary M Saikumar; and senior officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited.
The chief minister began his inspection by travelling by Metro train from the Government Estate Metro Station to the Nandanam Metro Station.
He purchased a ticket for the journey and, during the trip, interacted with commuters and took selfies with them.
A press release said he visited the Operations Control Centre at the Chennai Metro Rail Limited headquarters in Nandanam and reviewed the monitoring and management of train operations with officials.
Reviewing the progress of Phase I and Phase II works, Vijay discussed future Metro expansion plans and feasibility studies and issued necessary directions to officials.
He enquired about last-mile connectivity and feeder transport facilities arranged for passengers travelling from metro stations to their final destinations, the release said.
Following this, the chief minister continued his inspection atop the 101-foot-high Metro bridge at Kathipara, under Corridor 5 of Phase-II (Madhavaram to Sholinganallur).
He reviewed the ongoing construction of the “balanced cantilever” elevated bridge, enquiring about its construction methodology and progress.
The work is being carried out without ground support pillars. The release said the challenging task is being executed through careful planning and strict safety measures without disrupting Phase I Metro services or road traffic.
Continuing the review, the chief minister inspected the Porur Bypass Metro Station under Corridor 4 of Phase-II.
He then travelled on a trial run of the Unattended Train Operation (driverless) Metro train between Porur Bypass and Poonamallee Bypass Metro stations.
