Barasat, Jul 28 (PTI) The police on Tuesday arrested a Trinamool Congress leader who is the panchayat samiti president of Hingalganj in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district for his alleged involvement in extortion and political violence in 2021, an officer said.

Shahidulla Gazi had suffered injuries during a protest against him by local people on Monday and was admitted to Basirhat Government Hospital.

He was arrested from the hospital, the police officer said.

The TMC leader will be produced before the Basirhat court on Wednesday, seeking remand, the officer said. PTI COR AMR NN
