Kolkata, Aug 15 (PTI) TMC youth leader Upasana Chowdhury on Saturday alleged that she was attacked by ABVP workers and stopped from entering the Asutosh College in the southern part of the city to hoist the national flag on Independence Day morning.
Chowdhury, the party’s IT cell in charge and a leader of the Mamata Banerjee faction, also claimed that eggs were hurled at her when she went to the institute.
In a social media post, she alleged that outsiders had entered the college premises and security personnel had not checked their identity cards.
Chowdhury claimed that police personnel deployed outside the college asked her and other TMC workers not to gather in front of the entrance, following which they had an altercation with them.
The TMC leader alleged that she was assaulted, and eggs were thrown at her during the heated argument.
“Members of the RSS-affiliated ABVP were behind the egg attack. The police were supporting them,” Chowdhury claimed.
A BJP leader dismissed the allegation, saying that the incident was a “manifestation of public anger against the TMC”.
Police did not immediately comment on the allegation. PTI SUS BDC
