New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) More than 30 deaths were reported due to tiger attacks in the Sundarban Tiger Reserve during the last five years, the Parliament was informed on Thursday.
The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh in response to a written question in Rajya Sabha.
The areas identified in the Sundarban Tiger Reserve where these deaths were reported are Sajnekhali Wildlife Sanctuary, Basirhat Range, National Park East, National Park West and Sundarbaner Jongole (inside forest area of Sundarban which is 4,200 sq km).
According to the data shared, four deaths were reported during 2021 while 11 were reported during 2022 followed by two in 2023, six in 2024, five in 2025 and four in 2026 so far.
A total of 132 ex gratia claims were filed during the period, including some old claims, out of which 22 were approved. PTI GJS NB
