Lucknow, Jul 13 (PTI) Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning affected parts of western Uttar Pradesh, while heavy showers lashed pockets of the eastern region on Monday, with Gorakhpur recording the highest rainfall of 85.3 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
State capital Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 36.9 degrees Celsius, 2.8 notches above normal, and a minimum of 28.2 degrees Celsius, 2.3 notches above normal. The city recorded relative humidity of 72 per cent at 8.30 am and 57 per cent at 5.30 pm, making for warm and humid conditions, it said.
According to the IMD, Gorakhpur received 85.3 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday, followed by Mohana with 33 mm.
Bulandshahr and Motipur Harhwa recorded 3.5 mm of rainfall each, Jaunpur received 0.5 mm, and Bahraich reported trace rainfall, while Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Kanpur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bareilly, Moradabad, Jhansi and most other districts reported no rainfall.
Day temperatures remained above normal across many parts of the state.
Moradabad and Hamirpur were the hottest places at 37.2 degrees Celsius each, followed by Agra at 37.2 degrees Celsius, Barabanki and Meerut at 37 degrees Celsius each, Lucknow at 36.9 degrees Celsius, Banda at 36.6 degrees Celsius, Kanpur at 36.5 degrees Celsius, Prayagraj and Bahraich at 36.4 degrees Celsius each, Ayodhya and Varanasi at 36 degrees Celsius each.
Gorakhpur remained the coolest among the major observatories with a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius after receiving heavy rain.
Humidity remained high across the state. Morning relative humidity was 98 per cent in Gorakhpur, 95 per cent in Lakhimpur Kheri, 88 per cent in Ayodhya, 84 per cent in Hardoi, 83 per cent in Muzaffarnagar and 81 per cent in Bahraich, Ballia and Jaunpur. Kushinagar and Mohana recorded 100 per cent humidity.
The IMD said eastern Uttar Pradesh received 4.9 mm of rainfall against the normal of 10.1 mm on Monday, a deficit of 51 per cent, while western Uttar Pradesh recorded only 0.1 mm against the normal of 7.2 mm, a deficit of 99 per cent.
According to the weather office, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds were forecast over western Uttar Pradesh on Monday. No warning has been issued for either region until July 16. However, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh from July 17 to 19 and over western Uttar Pradesh on July 18 and 19. PTI KIS RUK RUK
