Thunderstorms, gusty winds likely in Himachal Pradesh on May 11 & 12

Shimla, May 6 (PTI) A few places in Himachal Pradesh witnessed light to moderate rain on Wednesday, while some others were lashed by thunderstorm and lightning, the local meteorological centre said.

Shimla, Jubberhatti, Sundernagar, Jot and Kangra were among the places that witnessed thunderstorms.

In the 24 hours since 4 pm on Tuesday, Sangrah received 31 mm of rain, followed by Shimla 18 mm, Nahan 13.2 mm, Mandi 7.6 mm, Kahu 7.4 mm, Berthin 6.2 mm, Sarahan 5.5 mm and Solan, Palampur and Jaton Barrage 5.2 mm each, while Seobagh witnessed gusty winds.

Damage to horticulture crops in isolated pockets in the upper Shimla area due to hail was also reported.

The Shimla Met office has predicted a wet spell in the state on Thursday, Monday (May 11) and Tuesday (May 12) as a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from May 10.

It has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kilometres per hour at isolated places in the state on May 11 and 12.

On the temperature front, Tabo was the coldest at night, recording a minimum temperature of 0.8 degrees Celsius, while Una was the hottest during the day with a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius.

Minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 2-4 degrees Celsius and 3-8 degrees Celsius respectively in the next four to five days, the Met office said. PTI BPL RUK RUK
