Lucknow, Sep 9 (PTI) Rain and thundershowers are likely at a few places in eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next two days, while weather is expected to remain largely dry in western parts of the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In Lucknow, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy before becoming generally cloudy, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers likely. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively, IMD said.
The regional meteorological update said the weakening of the western end of the monsoon trough has led to a widespread decline in rainfall over western Uttar Pradesh. However, the trough passing through central parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh has resulted in light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning at some places in Purvanchal.
The rainfall activity in eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to continue for the next two days, with a slight increase under the influence of a probable low-pressure area over the northern Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, some increase in rainfall activity is likely over western Uttar Pradesh, although no widespread rainfall is expected during the period.
The regional seasonal rainfall departure has remained at zero, according to the update.
Gorakhpur recorded 15.2 mm rainfall, while Bahraich received 27.4 mm, Ghazipur 16.4 mm and Azamgarh 22.2 mm during the period covered in the IMD bulletin. Churk recorded 4 mm, while Varanasi, Fursatganj and Lakhimpur Kheri received 0.6 mm, 0.6 mm and trace rainfall, respectively.
Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal, while the minimum was 26.6 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees above normal. No rainfall was recorded in the city between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Wednesday. PTI CDN ARB ARB
