Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Aug 16 (PTI) Three youngsters allegedly gang-raped a 19-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district and were arrested within hours of the incident, a police official said on Sunday.

Circle Officer Vivek Tiwari told reporters that the three accused, Siddharth (22), Madhumesh Mishra (23), and Vishu Kanojia (19), have been arrested, and further legal action is underway.

According to the police, the three were initially taken into custody and questioned regarding the incident.

Superintendent of Police Dr Khyati Garg said that the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon.

One of the accused, who was on friendly terms with the woman, allegedly invited her to his home, and his parents were not present at the time.

He, along with two other friends, allegedly gang-raped the woman. The three fled the scene after her condition deteriorated.

Later, the rape survivor returned home and informed her grandparents about the incident. Her family then took her to the district hospital and informed the police.

SP Garg informed that all three accused are residents of the same area and a case has been registered against them under Section 70(1) (gang rape) of the BNS.

The survivor’s statement is being recorded in accordance with legal procedure, the SP stated, adding that she is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, and her condition is said to be improving. PTI COR NAV MPL MPL
