Raichur (Karnataka), Jul 22 (PTI) Three members of a family died and two others are undergoing treatment following suspected food poisoning in Raichur district, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Ramesh (38), and his daughters Nagamma (8) and Deepa (6).
His wife, Padma, and two other children have been admitted to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where they are currently receiving treatment.
The incident occurred in K Timmapur village of Sirwar taluk on Monday night.
According to family members, the six had consumed a dinner of brinjal curry, roti, rice, and sambar. The brinjal used in the curry was harvested from their own farm.
Relatives said pesticide had been sprayed on the crop just three days earlier and suspect this could have led to the poisoning.
Shortly after the dinner, all six began showing symptoms and were rushed to hospital. Despite efforts by doctors, three of them could not be saved.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. PTI GMS SSK
