Thane, Sep 28 (PTI) A father-son duo and another person were killed while two others were injured in a collision between two speeding vans on a highway near Malshej Ghat in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Monday.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning on National Highway No. 61 in Murbad taluka.
A pickup van carrying three residents of Khedle-Talavale village collided head-on with a poultry van going towards Kalyan, a police official said.
The impact crushed the front cabins of both vehicles. All three occupants of the pickup van died on the spot. They have been identified as Maruti Tukaram Khare (55), his son Ajit Maruti Khapare (25) and driver Ram Malu Sapate (40), the official said.
Two individuals inside the poultry vehicle suffered injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles were speeding at the time of the crash. Following an initial inquiry, the police registered a case against the poultry van’s driver under relevant legal provisions, Tokawade police station’s assistant inspector Sheetalkumar Naik said. PTI COR GK
