Gurugram, Oct 25 (PTI) Three persons were killed while another was seriously injured after a speeding trailer truck rammed into their pickup van on National Highway 248A in Nuh district, police said on Sunday.

The accident took place late on Saturday near the Housing Board Colony cut in Ferozepur Jhirka area.

The victims were returning to Gurugram after attending an engagement ceremony when the trailer truck rammed into their van with great force, wrecking it completely, police said.

According to police, the truck driver allegedly abandoned his vehicle and fled the spot.

The impact was so severe that rescuers struggled to extricate the bodies from the wreckage. Police and local residents used a bulldozer to lift the mangled pickup van and cut through the metal to recover the bodies, an officer said.

The deceased were identified as Ravi (28), a resident of Feroz Gandhi Colony in Gurugram, and Anil (26) and Vivek — residents of Sohna, police said. The bodies were sent to a mortuary for post-mortem.

A case has been registered against the truck driver, and the circumstances leading to the accident are being investigated, the officer said. PTI COR SMV ARB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
