Palghar, Aug 22 (PTI) Three persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing jewellery worth Rs 90 lakh from a shop in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, officials said on Saturday.

Police have recovered gold ornaments valued at over Rs 51 lakh from the trio, they said.

Three masked men barged into New Laxmi Jewellers located on Irani Road in the Dahanu area on July 20 and took away 700 grams of jewellery worth Rs 90 lakh after firing a round and damaging property, said police.

“We formed dedicated teams from the local crime branch and Dahanu police to track down the suspects,” said Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh.

The first breakthrough came on July 27 after police arrested one Yashwant Sadhu Chaudhari (40). Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of two more alleged robbers, identified as Dipesh Yashwant Gawali (22) and Vishal Dhakya Chaure (23).

All three are residents of the Dahanu region, police said.

“We have successfully recovered 428.05 grams of robbed gold jewellery valued at Rs 51.51 lakh from the arrested persons,” said Deshmukh, adding that further investigation into the case was underway. PTI COR NR

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
