Jaipur, Aug 13 (PTI) Police have detained three people in connection with the killing of an inmate of an open jail in Jaipur, officials said on Thursday, claiming that the murder was carried out over an old enmity.
Gangasahay Kumawat, who was serving a sentence at Sanganer open jail in connection with the murder of Mahendra Gurjar, was shot dead on Wednesday evening on Dhawas Road in the Karni Vihar area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Kiran said three people were detained after police examined CCTV footage and questioned suspects.
During questioning, it emerged that Ayush, son of Mahendra Gurjar, allegedly hired his friends Sonu Rajak and Amit Rana to kill Gangasahay and left for Nepal, the DCP said.
Sonu Rajak and Amit Rana allegedly conducted reconnaissance of Gangasahay before shooting him on Wednesday and fleeing the spot, he said.
Police said Kanhaiya Gurjar allegedly provided weapons to the two accused.
Sonu, Amit and Kanhaiya have been detained and are being questioned further, the DCP said.
