Thane, Sep 17 (PTI) A gang that was cheating people by promising to turn black chemical-coated paper into currency notes of Rs 500 denomination was busted in Thane district, a police official said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off, Kashigaon police held Amol Bandgar (43), Chaitali Shankar Chakraborty (27) and Nisha Sunil More (41) from near a hotel in Kajupada area on September 8, he said.
“They were held while demonstrating this trick. They had placed genuine Rs 500 notes along with those treated with chemicals. The aim was to deceive people by taking away their money. We confiscated cash and materials valued at Rs 1.38 lakh, including 151 genuine Rs 500 currency notes alongside chemicals and other apparatus,” he said.
Bandgar is from Raigad, while Chakraborty and More are from Sangli, he added.
A case was registered at Kashigaon police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the official said. PTI COR BNM
