Bareilly (UP), Sep 13 (PTI) Police arrested three people on Sunday for allegedly running a fake Ayurvedic medicine company and cheating people by selling products through misleading online advertisements.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Manush Pareek said the Baradari police acted on a tip-off and raided the firm near Yadgar Restaurant on Saturday.
He said the accused were allegedly operating a call centre using laptops, mobile phones and other electronic devices to sell Ayurvedic medicines without valid licences through fake websites and online advertisements.
Police recovered 75 packets of fake medicines, including products named ‘Diabo Diabetic Powder’ and ‘Brahm Sugar Care’, besides fake bills and shipping labels from the spot.
Police arrested Sajid Malik, a resident of Jadoopur in Bhojipura; Islam, a resident of Aijaz Nagar Gautiya and Mohammad Zafar, a resident of Pashupati Vihar.
During questioning, Sajid allegedly told police that they received orders through websites and phone calls and prepared fake bills bearing names of different companies to win customers’ trust.
Police said they then sent the medicines through courier services.
Islam told police that he handled the technical work and created misleading Facebook advertisements claiming to cure diseases within three days.
He also created a website on Shopify, and sent parcels to customers on a cash-on-delivery basis.
Police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. Police said further investigation is underway. PTI CORR ABN ASD ASD ASD
