Hyderabad, Jul 5 (PTI) Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday accused the Congress government in Telangana of “protecting” the AIMIM over allegations that the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Campus was constructed within the buffer zone of a lake here.
Reddy alleged that in its “lust for commissions from land and real estate deals”, the Revanth Reddy government is willing to sacrifice the livelihoods of ordinary citizens while going to any extent to protect the AIMIM.
Reddy’s allegations came in the wake of the Telangana High Court reportedly taking a a serious view of the lack of clarity from government authorities on permissions granted to the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational KG-PG Campus, allegedly constructed within the Salkam Cheruvu lake area in Chandrayangutta here.
The court reportedly gave the authority a final opportunity to place all relevant records before it.
The union minister charged that the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has become a symbol of the Congress government’s selective governance.
“HYDRAA is swift and ruthless against the common man, but silent and indecisive when allegations concern the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Campus, reported to be located in the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of Salkam Cheruvu,” he said in a post on X.
Despite repeated observations of the Telangana High Court, questions raised over delays and inaction, and records sought from multiple departments including HYDRAA and the Education Department, the Congress government has failed to act with the same urgency it shows against the common man, he said.
According to him, the Congress government is treating the AIMIM as if it represents all Muslims, which is simply not true.
HYDRAA’s actions have affected poor Muslims as well, with their homes and livelihoods being demolished. Neither the AIMIM nor the Congress protested on behalf of vulnerable families when the demolitions took place.
“However, when the issue concerns assets linked to the MIM, both parties are seen standing together. This shows that what is being protected is not the Muslim community, but the political interests of the MIM,” he said.
The “Fatima institutions episode” exposed what he described as the Congress government’s “vote-bank politics” and the AIMIM’s “double standards”.
Meanwhile, addressing a gathering here, AIMIM floor leader in Telangana Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi, who runs educational institutions, defended himself and denied wrong doing.
“If you demolish one, we will build 10,” he said. PTI SJR SJR ROH
